Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania – Drive to Moshi.
The first day on your amazing Kilimanjaro Lemosho Route journey is filled with anticipation. After arriving at the airport, you’ll be greeted warmly by our driver who’ll transport you to the hotel in Moshi. You’ll then settle down then attend an orientation session. Our experienced team leaders will guide you through all the important details of your trip and offer advice for a successful journey. Your hiking gear will then be carefully inspected and adjusted if necessary. The rest of the day is spent getting ready for your life-changing adventure. Dinner and stay overnight on half board basis.
Day 2: Lemosho Glades (3500 m) — Shira 1 Camp (3505 m)
Distance: 5 km
Hiking time: 1-2 hour
Early breakfast will be followed by a 3 to 4 hour travel towards the Kilimanjaro National Park’s western entrance: Londorossi Gate at an elevation of nearly 2200m. At this spot, you can acquire your climbing permits. You will need to register with the search and rescue services, as a part of the climbing formalities. Once these are completed, your group will set out towards the drop-off point via off-roading vehicles reaching about 3500 meters. The stunning Shira Plateau views become visible for the first time, at this point in your 7 day Kilimanjaro Trek on the Lemosho route.
Day 3: Shira 1 Camp (3505 m) — Shira 2 Camp (3900 m)
Distance: 7 km
Hiking time: 3-4 hour
A light trek from the Shira 1 Camp (elevated at 3505 m) will take you towards the second high-altitude Shira 2 Camp at 3900 m. Thanks to an advantage of altitude, you’ll be able to enjoy the most spectacular views of Africa on this easy trek. The diverse and unique flora species of Kilimanjaro will be available for you to view while going up. Out of all spots in the 7 day Lemosho Route, Shira 2 Camp is the best to view the fifth summit of Africa – Mount Meru. You need to be lucky however, for the weather to be conducive!
You’ll reach the camp for lunch, which can be followed by a two-hour rest. Once you’ve rested adequately, you can look out for completion of the acclimatization hike towards the Lava Tower Camp. This hike for acclimatization will also help you gain a 200-meter advantage in altitude.
Day 4: Shira 2 Camp (3900 m) — Lava Tower (4630 m) — Barranco Camp (3960 m)
Distance: 12 km
Hiking time: 6-8 hour
Having gained the advantage, and acclimatized for the forthcoming trek, you can begin towards the Lava Tower, at 4630 m after breakfast. Amid a few bumps up and down the slope, you’ll tread towards the camp at an elevation of 4600 meters. The bumpy road may be somewhat inconvenient, but you will need to spend at least a few hours here so as to acclimatize yourself altogether.
After having lunch at this spot, you go downward towards the Barranco Camp. The Barranco Wall will be seen from here. The steepness and massive size of the Barranco Wall may make you wonder about the trek ahead, but fret not. The stretch of the Lemosho Route ahead would be relatively easy!
Day 5: Day 4: Barranco Camp (3960 m) — Karanga Camp (4035 m)
Distance: 5 km
Hiking time: 4-5 hour
It is advisable to wake up early, have breakfast and be ready on time, so you can continue to wend your way ahead. If you start late, your schedule may get impacted owing to the heavy crowds, which can hinder your overall trek. The hike up the gorge wall won’t be challenging, and may take just about an hour. On completing your ascension, you can rest for a while. The Kibo Volcano, where it is recommended to halt, is a well-known spot for photography. After a brief stop, brace yourself for challenges as you continue the hike towards Karanga Camp. Our skilled guides can minimize the complexities of your Mount Kilimanjaro Lemosho Route hike by choosing the best spots for your group. Most of the times, you’ll be unaffected by the downsides of the trek thanks to their expert guidance.
You are likely to reach the camp by afternoon, where you’ll be served a hot lunch. It may be tempting to rest for some time, but we’d recommend completing the acclimatization hike towards the Barafu Camp (at 4640 m), with 200 meter gain in altitude. After the acclimatization hike, you can come back down to the camp.
Day 6: Karanga Camp (4035 m) — Barafu Camp (4640 m)
Distance: 6 km
Hiking time: 4-5 hour.
After the laborious trek the day earlier, you can look forward to a relatively comfortable mountaineering the next day. After a quick breakfast, you can trek towards Barafu Summit Camp. Barafu Summit Camp lies as high as nearly 4,640 meters, and is the starting point for night climbing on Uhuru Peak (5,895 m).
Before your arrival at the Barafu Camp, your camp will be set up – replete with a tent and sleeping bags. So when you reach it, all you need to do is provide your aching muscles with the much-needed relief. Once you’ve rested well, you would need to head towards the intermediate Kosovo Summit Camp for acclimatization. You can look out for a hot dinner, once you’re back at the Barafu Camp. On reaching the Barafu Camp, make sure you spend the remaining time resting and sleeping well, so you’re well prepared for the night summiting schedule ahead.
Day 7: Barafu Camp (4640 m) — Uhuru Peak (5895 m) — Barafu Camp (4640 m) — Millenium Camp (3820 m)
Distance: 15 km
Hiking time: 8–12 hour
You’ll depart from Barafu Camp (situated at 4640 m) in the middle of the night and head towards the Uhuru Peak, at 5895m. Though the ascent is simple, the high altitude adds to the challenge. Climbers will however, get personal attention from the guide for the whole summiting. They will be ensuring your physical and mental well-being throughout the remaining Kilimanjaro Lemosho Route map.
After your successful Kilimanjaro climb on the Lemosho Route you might want to descend towards the nearest glacier. Soon after, you will begin your downslope way towards the Barafu Camp and go further towards the Millennium Camp at 3820m.
Day 8: Millenium Camp (3820 m) — Mweka Gate (1650 m)
Distance: 12 km
Hiking time: 4-5 hour
Lying in a tropical rainforest, the camp gives you an advantage of more scenic beauty that you can enjoy for the remaining few hours of your trek on Lemosho. You’ll wake up to the relief of relatively lower heights, which help you revel in the joys of a successful 7-day Kilimanjaro climb on the Lemosho Route.
After a hearty breakfast at the camp, you can exit towards the Mweka Gate, 1650m. The overwhelming congratulatory wishes you receive upon completing your Kilimanjaro trek along the Lemosho Route will make your day indeed! The whole group will gather to congratulate you, and you can share your opinions in the guestbook. You will also be presented with commemorative certificates, with a drop back to your hotel. This time you will overnight in Arusha instead of Moshi.
Day 9: Departure from Arusha to Kilimanjaro Airport.
If you are flying back home we mostly recommend to book an evening flight so that you can spend in the afternoon doing shopping in Arusha and of course this is the reason why we booked your last night accommodation in Arusha. This is the beating heart of the wild and the last port of civilization. The markets of Arusha burst with color, and throng with locals picking up their weekly wares. The numerous cafes sell dark and deliriously good coffee from the plantations, and close by the infamous National Park lures visitors in to explore her evocative Maasai culture and exotic flora and fauna. In the late evening, depending on your flight time we will come to pick you up and drop you at Airport.
